TurnerBrochureTwentieth Anniversary Celebration

The 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Turner Fellowship was held on May 15, 2007 at the Stony Brook University campus. It was attended by about 100 members of the Turner community, including alumni, current fellows, and past and present deans, directors and advisory committee members. The celebration was filled with moving talks, reflections of personal journeys, and impressive presentations about the academic and professional achievements of our past and present Turner Fellows. Professor W. Burghardt Turner, the history faculty after whom the fellowship was named, was honored in the evening banquet for his lifetime achievement in making graduate education accessible and inclusive for underrepresented students. Later that week, Burg Turner was bestowed an honorary doctorate degree during the Doctoral Hooding Ceremony. We are delighted at the rich history that has made the Turner Fellowship Program the transforming catalyst that it has become in making Stony Brook University a leader in diversity and academic excellence in graduate education.
