Inter-University Doctoral Consortium (IUDC)

The Graduate School of Stony Brook University joined this consortium in 2002. The member graduate schools include: Columbia University, CUNY, Fordham University, New School University, New York University, Princeton University, Rutgers University, Stony Brook University, Teacher's College of Columbia University. The Consortium exists to enable advanced doctoral students in the arts and sciences to take courses that are unavailable at their home institution at partner institutions. Stony Brook students participating in IUDC pay tuition only to Stony Brook University. Additional charges may be assessed by host institutions for lab fees if applicable.

Eligibility

Stony Brook University doctoral students must have completed at least one academic year of full time residence and currently be matriculated in a Ph.D. program in the arts and sciences to be eligible to participate in this program. Courses available at Stony Brook should not normally be taken at another institution. Interested students should first contact their Graduate Program Director.


Registration Instructions

Download the application form from the Graduate School web pages at http://www.grad.sunysb.edu/research/forms/IUDCFall2006.pdf. This form will constitute the documentation of your participation in IUDC. Complete all areas of the form clearly and legibly for accurate registration and grade reporting. Obtain the following signatures on the form in exactly this order:

1. Stony Brook Chair or Graduate Program Director

2. Stony Brook Program Coordinator, Asst. Dean Kent Marks

3. Host school course Instructor

4. Host school Program Coordinator

A Stony Brook course registration number will be assigned at the Stony Brook Graduate Dean's Office. After obtaining all signatures on the application form, make three additional copies of the form. Stony Brook registration for the IUDC is in person at the Registrar's Office where the original, completed and signed application form must be submitted for processing to the Registrar's Office within the Academic Calendar deadlines. It is the student's responsibility to discover and comply with any registration procedures that may be required by the host institution. The additional copies made of the completed form are for (1) the consortium administrator at the host institution, and (2) the course instructor, (3) the student's record. The course instructor will use the form to submit the student's course grade to Stony Brook when the term is completed. The third copy must be safely retained by the student as a record of participation in IUDC, in case verification is needed later.
