The Department of Hispanic Languages and Literature offers graduate students the opportunity to conduct advanced research in Spanish Peninsular and Latin-
American language, literature, and culture. Our goal, in terms of instructional philosophy, is to train a diverse body of graduates—traditionally, we have recruited students from many national and ethnic backgrounds—to become accomplished scholars and professors able to function effectively and successfully at any level of higher education.
Our goals are matched by our achievements. In its 30 years of existence, the Department of Hispanic Languages and Literature has established itself as one of the leading programs of Spanish and Spanish-American studies in the country (it has been ranked among the top 15 departments of Hispanic Language in public research universities). Graduates from the program have been consistently hired by prominent institutions of higher education. We are looking in the future to enhance our already distinguished reputation, and invite you to join us in fulfilling our ambitions.
