Having a Turner Fellowship has made a tremendous difference in my graduate experience. I have more time to spend on class work and my own projects, and there’s no doubt that the generous stipend has helped soften the burdens of grad student life. But what is truly special about the Turner is the opportunities it affords to meet talented students from other disciplines and hear about their work. In graduate school, it’s easy to stay within the confines of one’s own discipline; the Turner Fellowship has been an important point of contact with a wider community.
